Company Profile
American Airlines is one of the established major airlines of the US. It is also the world’s largest airline in terms of transported passenger miles as well as passenger fleet size. It is the second largest, following FedEx Express, in terms of the number of aircrafts operated. It is still second following Air France-KLM in terms of operating revenues.
Being a subsidiary of its parent company, American Airlines has scheduled flights all throughout America, Canada, South America, the Caribbean, Japan, China, Europe, and even India. By 2005, the airline has already flown beyond 138 billion RPM or revenue passenger miles.
American Airlines Destinations
American Airlines serves 4 of the world’s 7 continents. The hubs situated in Dallas/Fort Worth and in Miami are the main gateways to the US. The Chicago hub, on the other hand, is the main gateway to Asia and Europe. The JFK at New York is the main gateway to both Europe and the US while the New York La Guardia or LGA and St. Louis function as the airline’s regional hubs. At present, American Airlines is second to Continental Airlines in terms of number of international destinations.
Moreover, American Airlines is the only airline in the US that has scheduled flights to Bolivia, Grenada, Dominica, Anguilla, Uruguay, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
In 2005, American Airlines expanded its flight destinations to Asia, starting with a nonstop flight to Osaka-Kansai from Dallas/Fort Worth. This flight did not stay long, however, but the flight from Chicago to Delhi remains since its introduction. Another flight from Chicago to Shanghai was introduced in April 2006 and this flight service also remains.
