Company Profile
China Southern Airlines was founded in 1988. It was established because of the decision from the government. At that time, the government wanted to split the Civil Aviation Administration of China into several airlines which operate separately. Therefore, 4 major airlines, including China Southern Airlines, were created.
Unlike some of the traditional Chinese airlines, China Southern Airlines looked for opportunities to cooperate with the foreign companies. Therefore, it was active in launching cooperation plans with the foreign businesses. It established joint-venture with companies like Hutchison Whampoa from Hong Kong.
Later, the Chinese government decided to loosen the control over the aviation industry and it did not refuse the airlines in China to cooperate with foreign investors. Therefore, China Southern Airlines grabbed the opportunities to seek opportunities to cooperate with more foreign businesses and equipped the company with solid financial support. Through series of mergers and acquisitions, the company was able to become one of the leaders in the Chinese aviation industry.
