Jetblue

Overview

Jetblue is an airline in the USA following the low-cost strategy. It is headquartered at Forest Hills neighbourhood and it is based in Kennedy International Airport in Queens.

Jetblue had focus city operation plans in the previous years. It had the operations in Long Beach of California, Orlando and San Juan.

Jetblue is one of the few low-cost airlines which could survive after the 911 attack in the USA. One of the reasons is that the company tried to increase the security level of the flights and they continued to give confidence to their passengers through various types of measures.

Company Profile

Jetblue started its operation in Delaware in 1998. The founder of the company was David Neeleman. Since most of the executives of the company, including the founder, were the employees of Southwest Airlines, they adopted the strategy of low-cost leadership, which is also the strategy adopted by Southwest Airlines.

Compared with some of the low-cost airlines, Jetblue provides more in-flight entertainment. There are TV sets at every seat and there is also Satellite radio. The aim of the company is to ‘bring humanity back to air travel’. Therefore, a lot of passengers who feel humiliated by the poor entertainment and service from traditional low-cost airlines would be willing to switch to Jetblue. They love to enjoy the entertainment from Jetblue and they think that the price of the ticket is reasonably cheap.

The company puts the clients as the most important factor of the business. The slogan ‘You Above All’ obviously reflects the aim of the company. As the company is increasing in size, it definitely would not forget the customer-oriented strategy because it is this strategy which helps the company to become the famous one in the aviation industry nowadays.

Fleet

Since Jetblue has to cut cost, it mainly uses Airbus A320-200 and Embraer 190 to form the fleet. These aircrafts would not impose burden for the company to get a lot of passengers for each flight and it is easier for the company to maintain the operation of these aircrafts. Therefore, it is also the plan that the company would continue to use these smaller aircrafts for forming the fleets.

Destinations

Passengers of Jetblue Airways can fly to more than 60 destinations in about 11 countries. For example, they can travel to Colombia, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Sint Maarten, Barbados, Aruba, The Bahamas, Bermuda, the US, etc.
