Overview
Established in 1926, the airline actually started out as Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft. It was reestablished in 1954, thereby carrying the name of Lufthansa. The airline’s major operational hubs are located in Munich Airport and in Frankfurt Airport, with its focus cities in Hamburg Airport, Stuttgart Airport, Berlin-Tegel Airport, and Düsseldorf International Airport.
The airline’s frequent flyer program is Miles and More and its member lounge is HON/Senator Lounge. Forming an alliance with Star Alliance, Lufthansa has several subsidiaries, including Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, British Midland Airways Ltd., Germanwings, Lufthansa CityLine, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Regional, Lufthansa Italia, and Swiss International Airlines. With a fleet size of over 250, Lufthansa flies to more than 200 destinations in at least 80 countries all over the world.

Lufthansa goes by the company slogan of, “There’s no better way to fly.” Being one of Europe’s biggest airlines in the industry, Lufthansa is actually Germany’s flag carrier. The company’s name actually comes from the German word Luft, meaning air, and Hansa, from the medieval trading group known as the Hanseatic League.
At present, Lufthansa is the 5th largest airline worldwide when it comes to the number of overall passengers ever carried. With its existing partners from the alliance that it has established with Star Alliance, Lufthansa offers its domestic and international services to more than 400 destinations.
Lufthansa is also one of the founding members of Star Alliance itself. Founded in 1997, Lufthansa’s partners include Air Canada, United Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines System, and Thai Airways.
