Mexicana Airlines

Overview

Established back in 1921, Mexicana Airlines has two major hubs located at Mexico City International Airport and Guadalajara International Airport. Its focus city is actually Cancún International Airport, with its headquarters based at Mexico City, Mexico. With MexicanaGo for its frequent flyer program, the airline’s member lounge is the Elite Lounge. With a fleet size of roughly 96 aircrafts flying to approximately 48 destinations, word is out that Mexicana Airlines is set to expand its range of flights this year by forming an alliance with Oneworld. Operating under the parent group, Grupo Posadas, Mexicana Airlines boasts of its company slogan, “Vuela en lo más alto,” which literally means in English, “Fly in the highest.”

Company Profile

With its complete name being Compañía Mexicana de Aviación, S.A. de C.V., Mexicana Airlines is actually the first ever airline that was established on Mexican soil. Apart from its domestic flights and services, the airline has already ventured into international standards and is, in fact, the country’s biggest airline when it comes to most passengers transported. The airline offers flight services to worldwide destinations, including the continents of North America, South America, Central America, Europe, and even the Caribbean.

Mexicana Airlines’ Competition

Mexicana Airlines does have its fair share of competitors – its main one being Aeroméxico. The two airline companies do codeshare for several routes and were even merged for a period of more than 10 years. The airline is actually the oldest airline ever established in North America and is also the 3rd oldest airline that has been operating under the same name. Mexicana Airlines follows KLM of Netherlands and Qantas of Australia.

Mexicana Airlines Subsidiaries

Over the years, the airline has established several subsidiaries. At present, these subsidiaries include MexicanaClick, MexicanaLink (MexicanaInter), and MRO Services. Former subsidiaries include Aerocaribe, Aeromonterrey, and Mexicana Cargo.

Mexicana Airlines Fleet

The airline makes use of Airbus and Boeing aircraft models. For the Airbus models, the airline uses A318-100, A319-100, A320-200, and A330-200. The Boeing aircraft models, on the other hand, include 757-200, 767-200ER, and 767-300ER.

In Europe, Mexicana Airlines flies to Spain and the United Kingdom. In Canada, Mexicana Airlines flies to Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. In the United States of America, Mexicana Airlines flies to California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New York, and Texas. In the Caribbean, Mexicana Airlines flies to Cuba. In Central America, the airline flies to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama. In South America, Mexicana Airlines flies to Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela.
