Overview
Established back in 1947, Singapore Airlines actually started out as Malayan Airways. With its main hub located at the Singapore Changi Airport, the airline has the KrisFlyer PPS Club for its frequent flyer program and the Silver Kris Lounge for its member lounge. Forming a strong working relationship with Star Alliance, the airline operates a fleet size of over 100 aircraft units, and this is exclusive of cargo aircrafts yet, to over 65 destinations all over the world. All these are done by Singapore Airlines from its main base at Singapore, operating under the parent company of Temasek Holdings in accordance with the company slogan, “A Great Way to Fly”.

Singapore Airlines is actually Singapore’s very own national airline. Operating a main hub at the Singapore Changi Airport, the airline has created a strong presence in the markets of East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and even that of the Kangaroo Route. The airline also operates trans-Pacific flights and two of these are from Singapore to Los Angeles, California and Newark, New Jersey. These two flights are dubbed as the longest nonstop commercial flights all the way from Singapore to America all over the world. The Airbus A340-500 aircraft model is used for both flights.
At present, the airline ranks one of the top 15 worldwide carriers when it comes to revenue passenger kilometers, and is also currently the 11th largest Asian airline. It has also been ranked the 6th worldwide when it comes to the number of international passengers ever carried. Moreover, as a company, Singapore Airlines was able to garner the 33rd spot as Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies, just this year 2009. The airline has also won so many awards, particularly pertaining to safety, innovation, and service excellence.
