Athens

FLIGHTS AND TRAVEL GUIDE

Overview

The history of Greece is virtually wound around the city of Athens. This city was the heart of the Hellenic world for centuries. It is an immortal city acknowledged as the pioneer of civilization. The city is adorned with the cyclopean wall which runs round the acropolis rock, vivid traces of habitation of the Bronze Age and some pre-Hellenic place names; prove that Athens was the inhabited by man from very early times. In spite of the steep of myth and history of the city, it is shockingly a contemporary metropolis. Modern Athens is regarded as a matter of here and now; the designer studs, after hour’s bars, beach parties and bouzouki stars rather than the classic ancient works. However, you will still find the Parthenon looming large at any corner. Visitors to Athens always crowd the archeological park that circles the Acropolis; the link between all main monuments with pedestrian walkways. The city of Athens is prided to have existed for nearly 3400 years. It is the home of Aristotle’s Lyceum as well as the Plato’s Academy. It is generally believed to have bred the western democracy and civilization due to its political and cultural impact during the 4th and the 5th BC. Athens is a leading European Business center. It is among the top famous cities of the world, bearing the name of the Greek Goddess Athena. It is the origin of the Olympic Games, a vast center for industrial, economic, financial and political life in Balkans and Greece. The city is a prominent tourist destination.
