Weather / Climate

China’s climate is comparable to the United States in the sense that there are 4 seasons, but the temperature differs from every region as follows:

  • North – between December and March, the north experiences winter and so it is very cold. Beijing in particular does not go up to 32°F. The North of the Great Wall is much colder with a temperature that drops below freezing point. It is best to see the sand dunes all covered in snow that glistens with the sight of snow-capped mountains. Around May up to August is the summer season, while July to August is mostly rainy in the city. The Best time to visit the north is during autumn and spring, although it might be very hot in the day but the nights are colder and nice while early spring and late autumn may be frosty during the night.
  • Central – this is the Part where the famous Yangtze River is located, that includes Shanghai; the summers are longer, humid and hot. China has these 3 furnaces, Chongqing, Wuhan, and Nanjing. High temperature is generally high anytime between the month of April and October, winters here are shorter but really cold. At times it may become rainy anytime during summer. You cannot really tell the best time to visit this part of China but the most probable time is spring and autumn.
  • South- in Guangzhou, the far south, the hot and humid seasons usually last around the month of April up to September and temperatures may rise up to 100°F. During the rainy seasons, typhoons may hit bet July to September, while they experience a short winter period. The best time to travel this part of China is during autumn and spring. It can be really wet and cold with some drizzles and rain, so it’s best to prepare.
  • Northwest- You may want to avoid this part at the peak of summer since the Industrial Urumqi is in dismal. However, it would be great to visit the lake of Heaven in the east of the city. Also the best time to get there is during spring and autumn.
  • South Central- Summer is really hot and there is a frequent humidity in rain. Winter is a bit shorter and at the same time cooler.

Those are the information as to when you may best get to China. If you have not experienced snow then better be going during winter but if you want to smell the fresh feeling under the sun, then you have to make sure you get there at the right time.
