Overview

Melbourne is the famous capital of Victoria State. It is second most famous metropolitan city after Sydney. The MCC (Melbourne city center) is the center of greater geographical area. Port Philip is the natural bay nearest to this city. In the north eastern part of Melbourne the River Yarra flows. This metropolitan area is extended between the eastern and western parts of Port Philip. The municipality of Melbourne is having around 30 Wards. The history of this city dates back to 1835. The city was named by Richard Bourke, the mayor of 1837. It was declared as official city in 1847. In the year 1851 it became the new capital of newly formed colony Victoria and later transformed into state. It is one of the wealthiest and largest cities in the world. The city was recaptured by federation Australia in 1927. Today it is the center for education, sports, entertainment and tourism. Melbourne has the distinction of having highest number of MBA colleges in the Australia. It is the centre of both traditional and contemporary music.

Melbourne follows oceanic climate according to the Koppen classification. The climatic conditions change frequently in Melbourne. The main reason for this is it is situated in between cold southern ocean and hot inland. The temperature varies rapidly during summer and spring seasons. There are chances of very cold weather conditions that resulted in thunderstorms. Heavy rain falls and temperature drops are very common. Normally Melbourne is colder than any other city in Australia. The lowest temperature recorded is -2.8 degree C and highest temperature being 46.4 degree C on February 2009. Snowfalls are rare and experiences fog and frosts during winter seasons. This city undergoes four seasons. It is a cultural country with thousands of visitors visiting daily.

Melbourne is a good place to travel around. Most of the tourism places are situated in the centre of the city and rest can be reached with in 20 min either through bus or train. The well planned roads really attract the tourists all the time. Once upon a time it was the dirtiest city and later transformed into civilized city. Public transportation is the greatest means of communication with in the city. You can buy Met cards to travel in any mode and costs around $10.
