Overview

Sydney is the capital of New South Wales and the most popular and largest city in Australia. It is situated in the south coast of Tasman Sea. The residents of Sydney are called with the name Sydneysiders. It is a cosmopolitan city with more number of foreign visitors visiting daily. It is the first site of British colony and was founded by Arthur Philip, the commodore in 1788. The major portion of city was built on hills and surrounded by Jackson Harbor. This harbor famously called as Sydney harbor. Harbor Bridge and Sydney opera house are the iconic places in Sydney. This metropolitan city is surrounded by bays, inlets, rivers, national parks and beaches. The famous Bondi beach is located near Sydney only. Royal botanical garden and Hyde park are some of the notable parks here. In the year 2010 it is ranked as 7th economical innovation city in Asia and 28th in the world. It is also listed in the index of ‘the economist ’. It is the centre for culture, fashion, commerce, education, tourism and entertainment. It is also listed in the group of Alpha cities. The summer Olympic Games in 2000 also conducted here followed by world cup finals of Rugby in 2003. Sydney airport is the main serving airport of Sydney.

Sydney follows temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers. Rainfall is common all through the year. The weather is moderate and extreme temperatures are recorded in western suburbs. January is the warmest month with the reported temperature of 18.6-25.8 degree C. In a year the temperature will be more than 30 degree Celsius for about 14.6 days. The highest maximum temperature recorded here is 45.3 degree C. The temperature normally drops down during winter season. July is the coldest month with an expected temperature of 8.0-16.2 degree C. The lowest temperature recorded is 2.1 degree C. Even though the rainfall is evenly divided throughout the year its effect is more during first half of the year and slows during in the second half. Sydney is mostly covered by hills making it the major tourist attraction place in the Australia. Public transportation is common.
