Overview

Taipei is Taiwan’s capital and largest metropolitan city in Taiwan. Taiwan was formerly called as Republic of China. It is located in the northern tip near to Dashiki River. It is about 25 kilometers from southwest of Keelung. Taipei is relatively between the two valleys Xindian and Keelung. These valleys join the Dashiki River in the western part of the city. The estimated population of Taipei is around 2,618,772. Taipei is divided into two parts namely new Taipei and Keelung but come under the governance of Taipei only. It is the center for cultural activities, politics and economical activities. National palace museum is the collection of Chinese artifacts and recognized as global museum. This city is full of high speed rails, airports, bus lines and railways. It is the major part of industrial development also. It consists of two airports namely Taiwan Taovuan and Songshan. Some history reports show that it was founded in 18th century and was the hub of overseas trade. First it was occupied by Japanese at the time of sino-japanese war. Later it was occupied by republic China in 1945. In December 1949 Taipei was included as a part of Taiwan.

Climate / Weather

The city is exposed to four different seasons with subtropical climate. Summers are hot followed by heavy rainfalls occasionally. Winters are mild and short. Since it is near to Pacific Ocean there are chances of pacific typhoon seasonally. Fall is the comfortable period to tour Taipei. The average temperature of the city is about 20 degree C. Between February and April you can see damp sunlight. Typhoons normally occur between May and October. The lowest temperature recorded is 10 degree C. Snowfalls are occasional but not common.

Transportation

Taipei is clean city to travel. Its MRT (Mass Rapid Transportation) system is world famous. MRT is also called as Metro Taipei. It is a driverless mechanism but very safe to travel in the city. One time travel fare in this system is about NT$20 and varies up to NT$65. Most of the station boards in English and can be easily recognizable by foreign visitors. Along with the MRT tickets you can also use Easy Card to travel. You can recharge up to NT$5000 and can be used according to your needs. The key benefit of using this card is it offers 20 percent discounts on all rides. It can be recharged in subways, convenience stores and other retail outlets from 7AM to 11PM.
