Overview
Tonga is an Archipelago located in the region of South Pacific Ocean. It comprises of about 175 islands and covers an area of 700, 000 square kilometers in south pacific. Out of 175 islands about 52 islands are permanently inhabited. Tonga is officially called as “Kingdom of Tonga”. This island stretches about 500 miles in south line which is about 3 times the distance between New Zealand and Hawaii. This island also called with the name Friendly islands because of its friendly nature. This island was first visited by Captain James Cook in the year 1773. He found this place at the time of inasi which is a fruit donation festival to the paramount chief. It is the only island carried out without any colonization. Only in 2010 it took major decision on function as a constitutional monarchy. This decision was taken after the legislative reforms in the Island. In the early 2010 the major general elections were carried out and siale became the first elected president of the Tonga. He won the election by huge majority and belongs to Democratic Party of the Tonga.
Weather /Climate
Tonga undergoes tropical climatic conditions. The interesting thing here is this island undergoes only two seasons in a year. Winter and summer are the two seasons. The island experiences most of the rainfall during the months of February, March and April. The tropical season lasts for about six months which starts at November and Ends at April. The highest temperature recorded here in Tongs is 32 degree Celsius. The average highest temperature is 28 degree Celsius with a daily mean of 25 degree Celsius. This island experiences an average low of 22 degree Celsius during the year end. The lowest temperature recorded ever is 8.7 degree Celsius.
Transportation
Since it is located in between other islands it is the best place to tour. The basic transportation is provided through flight or through boats. The chathams airlines runs in between two islands Vava’u and Tongatapu. It is just eight minute journey between these two islands. The journey between these two islands is considered to be the shortest air travel time in the world. You can also rent cycles and motorbikes to travel around the city. If you are willing to stay here for few more days then you can hire a taxi for cheap price. The maximum speed limit here is 40KM/hr. the buses runs here are no timetables.
