Pack only necessary stuff. Always remember to pack light. Avoid bringing too much so you won’t have to pay for excess baggage. Be sure to check the climate of the place you are visiting to know which clothes are appropriate. Pack light, wrinkle-free, wash and wear clothes that are color coordinated so you can easily mix and match them. Choose the best luggage that will carry everything you need. Wheeled luggage is classic and ideal for almost all ‘types of travels. On the other hand, garment bags are ideal for short business trips while backpacks are suitable if you are camping, nature tripping or if you’ll be on the road most of the time. Some jetsetters advise to have one big luggage for your clothes and a duffle bag or a sling-on for your essentials like passport, wallet, basic toiletries, and mp3 player, palm pilot, etc. It is advised to leave a copy of your itinerary on your luggage so airline or hotel personnel will know where to locate you in case you lose your things.
Traveling with your partner
DO…
- Talk cash flow before you go. Nothing frays tempers more than being penniless in paradise.
- Behave and don’t be vague. If you are the sort of person who needs to have a purpose, state it clearly beforehand.
- Speak the same language. Have similar expectations of the holiday ahead. Make it work and you have a partner for life.
- Think of home. Make financial and accommodation plans for your return. This is where many couples fall out–for good.
DON’T…
- Always stick together. Agree to spend short periods of time apart.
- Give up. Show initiative, make suggestions, and keep up the momentum.
- Get stressed at everything. Be as flexible and laid-back as possible.
- Do everything yourself. Share tasks. Don’t split up over something as basic as the washing up.
- Kill him. Realize you will be irritated by each other–that cute snuffling noise he makes in his sleep won’t be so sweet on a 12-hour bus journey.
